DRC Minister of Mines to Lead Delegation at Mining Indaba 2025

The 2025 Investing in African Mining Indaba welcomes a distinguished delegation from the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), led by H.E. Kizito Pakabomba Kapinga Mulume, Minister of Mines, and Hon. Louis Watum, Minister of Industry and the Development of Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises.

Kizito Pakabomba brings over 20 years of international expertise in the oil and energy sectors, having worked with the TOTAL Group across Africa, Europe, and Asia.

In 2017, he founded TWYK, a company specializing in upstream strategy and monitoring, business development, public affairs and lobbying, strategic communication, and training.

TWYK thrives on its deep knowledge of political and institutional networks. A graduate of the Free University of Brussels (ULB), Pakabomba now leads a crucial sector of the Congolese economy, confronting complex challenges.

Accompanying them is Christian Kitungwa Muteba, Governor of Tanganyika Province, symbolizing the nation’s commitment to showcasing its vast mineral wealth and its bold vision for the mining sector’s future.

The DRC, a global leader in critical minerals, is home to the world’s largest cobalt reserves, along with substantial deposits of copper, coltan, and rare earth elements.

As the epicenter of the green energy revolution, the DRC is not only a major resource supplier but also an essential enabler of the global shift to sustainable energy solutions.

At this year’s Mining Indaba, the DRC delegation will emphasize Africa’s vital role in advancing the critical minerals sector, with a particular focus on lithium and graphite.

These key materials, integral to renewable energy technologies and battery production, underscore the DRC’s indispensable role in shaping a sustainable global future.

The DRC’s participation in the Disruptive Discussions platform will showcase its innovative strategies for unlocking Africa’s lithium and graphite potential.

The forum will explore the DRC’s forward-thinking approaches to driving economic growth and fostering technological advancements within the mining sector.

A hallmark of the DRC’s presence at Mining Indaba is its highly anticipated annual breakfast event. This gathering provides a unique opportunity for the nation to engage directly with international investors, partners, and industry leaders, underscoring its commitment to collaborative, responsible, and progressive partnerships.

On the Sustainability Stage, the DRC will address the urgent need for responsible resource management. The nation will share its strategies for balancing economic development with infrastructure resilience and environmental preservation, offering insights into overcoming challenges such as infrastructure debt while protecting its rich mineral resources.

The DRC is redefining its role in the mining industry—shifting from being solely a resource extractor to becoming a leader in resource transformation and technological innovation.

By prioritizing sustainability, collaboration, and cutting-edge solutions, the DRC is shaping its mining sector into a catalyst for economic empowerment and global influence.

Mining Indaba 2025 serves as a pivotal platform for the DRC to assert its position as a transformative force in the mining industry.

As the nation charts a new economic course, it sends a clear message to global stakeholders: the DRC is poised to lead, innovate, and collaborate for a prosperous and sustainable future.

Additionally, the Special Assistant to the President of Zambia, Jito Kayumba, will also be attending Mining Indaba 2025. Jito, an accomplished investment professional and strategist, has extensive experience in venture capital, corporate leadership, and governance.

As a key advisor to President Hakainde Hichilema on finance and investment, he is instrumental in shaping Zambia’s economic direction.

His attendance underscores Zambia’s commitment to driving investments in Africa’s mining sector and strengthening its role in global resource management.
